Gabriel Oliva
President of Avianca Group
Gabriel Oliva was appointed President of Avianca Group, a role he assumed concurrently with his responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer in November 2025. His appointment reinforces the Company’s leadership structure and as President, he continues to work hand in hand with Abra Group and Avianca’s more than 15,000 team members to strengthen the Company and ensure that passengers keep choosing the airline.
In September 2023, Mr. Oliva was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Cargo CEO. In this role, he leads the company's operations and service delivery areas, as well as the ongoing transformation of the cargo business. Under his leadership, and with an integrated vision of the business, cargo and passengers, he strengthened operational safety, efficiency, and customer experience. He joined the avianca cargo team as CEO in August 2021. His extensive experience proved to be crucial in reinventing the business unit to position it as a strong player in Latin America.
Mr. Oliva has more than 20 years of relevant leadership experience, with the last 11 years spent within the cargo industry. Before joining avianca, he held the position of Senior Vice President for the North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions at LATAM Airlines Cargo. Mr. Oliva had previously worked at The Boston Consulting Group and Siemens. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires in Argentina and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Nicolas Alvear
Chief Financial Officer
Nicolás Alvear has been a member of our Board of Directors since January 1, 2025. He has also served as our Chief Financial Officer since January 1, 2025. Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Alvear served as our Vice-President of Treasury from July 2023 to December 31, 2023, and, from July 2021 to December 31, 2023, as the Chief Financial Officer of lifemiles where he successfully led strategies that have enabled lifemiles to strengthen its financial structure, making it one of the largest and most recognized loyalty programs in Latin America. Before joining the Avianca Group, Mr. Alvear had over eight years of experience in investment banking and securities groups. Mr. Alvear holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and Operations Research from Columbia University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Felipe Gutierrez
Chief Operating Officer
Felipe Gutierrez was appointed avianca's Chief Operating Officer as of January 2026. Mr. Gutierrez has more than fifteen years of experience in the aviation sector and has played a key role in reshaping regional connectivity in Colombia. Most recently, he served as General Manager of EasyFly, leading the airline's transformation and rebranding to Clic, a process that involved significant operational, commercial, and organizational adjustments within the domestic market.
His professional background combines operational management, regulatory expertise, and team leadership in dynamic industry environments. Mr. Gutierrez holds an MBA from INALDE Business School, a Specialization in Financial Legislation, and degrees in Finance and Law from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia.
Otto Gergye
Chief Commercial Officer
Otto Gergye joined the Company in January 2025 as Chief Commercial Officer. Mr. Gergye has more than 20 years of experience in the tourism and aeronautical sectors. Before joining Avianca, he has led commercial processes in multiple companies, whether in strategic planning, business development, sales or revenue optimization.
Mr. Gergye served as Director of Revenue at Thai Airways, Vice President of Consulting services at Sabre, Sales and Commercial manager at Qantas for Asia, Chief Commercial Officer at Fiji Airways, among many other commercial roles at Air Berlin, British Airways, Amadeus and KLM.
Richard Galindo
Chief Legal Officer
Richard Galindo was named avianca’s General Counsel in November 2020 after joining avianca as Associate General Counsel in 2017. He currently leads the Legal, Compliance and Governmental Affairs teams. In his role as the Company’s General Counsel, Mr. Galindo was integral to the Company’s successful Chapter 11 reorganization and emergence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Galindo has more than 20 years of related legal experience and specializes in corporate and business law, with an emphasis on international contracts, M&A, joint ventures, aeronautical regulation and consumer protection. Richard has worked in local and international top-tier law firms, where he has led corporate, commercial, M&A and antitrust practice groups. Richard obtained his law degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), where he also pursued postgraduate studies in Corporate Law. He later earned a LL.M. (Master of Laws) in Business Law at the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) and earned a Tax Law Specialization degree from Universidad del Rosario (Colombia).
Renato Covelo
Chief People and Talent Officer
Renato Covelo has worked with avianca since December 2016. In his current role as avianca’s Chief People Officer, he is primarily responsible for building and aligning avianca’s new corporate culture throughout the organization.
Prior to joining the Company, he served as Legal Director and General Counsel at Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileras, a Brazilian low-cost carrier. Mr. Covelo has also served at several prominent law firms, including Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and within the legal departments of several other organizations in Brazil. He was nominated and confirmed as President of the Brazilian Bar Association’s Aviation Law Committee. Mr. Covelo holds a law degree from the Law Faculty of the Metropolitan United Faculties in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a degree in Corporate Law and Economics from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a master's degree in International Law from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Fernando Lara
Chief Information Officer
Mr. Lara initially joined Grupo TACA in 1991, serving in multiple executive roles and areas. In 2010, he became avianca’s Vice-President Information Technology, leading the Company’s critical technology projects. After 2016, he served as C-Executive Consultant for Air Canada, CIO of Interjet Airlines, and as Chief Executive Officer of Transcend Consulting. In 2021, Mr. Lara rejoined avianca as CIO, leveraging his considerable industry knowledge and experience to lead avianca through the sector’s dynamic digital moment. He is focused on ensuring avianca’s technological transformation and stabilization are closely aligned with the Company’s new business model.
Mr. Lara holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science as well as an executive MBA. He also completed multiple abridged MBA programs specializing in Project Management.
Ángela María Orozco Gómez
Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs
Ángela María Orozco Gómez joined Avianca in April 2026 as Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs. In this role, she leads the group’s institutional relations strategy, sustainability agenda, and corporate communications across markets. A native of Barranquilla, Ms. Orozco is an attorney with a distinguished career spanning both the public sector and trade associations. Her government service includes appointments as Minister of Transport (2018–2022), Minister of Foreign Trade (2002), President of Proexport (2000–2002), and Vice Minister of Foreign Trade (1998–2000).
In the private and trade sectors, she served as President of the Association of Edible Fats and Oils (Asograsas, 2008–2018) and held senior leadership positions at the Colombian Association of Flower Exporters (Asocolflores, 1995–1998), including General Manager, International Manager, and Vice President. As Minister of Transport, Ms. Orozco guided the aviation industry through one of its most complex crises during the global pandemic. Her leadership was pivotal in establishing the El Dorado Airport Aeronautical Committee, fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, and driving the El Dorado Capacity Study—initiatives that remain critical milestones in the development of regional aviation.
Katherine Stradaioli
Senior Vice President – Customer Experience
Katherine Stradaioli serves as avianca's Senior Vice President of Customer Experience since January 2026. Ms. Stradaioli has more than 14 years of experience in the aviation industry, with expertise in strategic planning, business development, key stakeholder and Board of Directors management, international relations, and transformation. She has led transformation projects across Finance, Commercial, Alliances, Technology, and Human Resources.
Throughout her career at avianca, she has held key positions including Chief of Staff, where she was responsible for designing and implementing the organization's strategic agenda and leading high-priority projects for executives and the Board of Directors. She has also managed the airline's relationship with Star Alliance and led codeshare agreement negotiations. She is an Industrial Engineer and holds a Master's degree in Marketing from Tecnologico de Monterrey.
